Carlitos
ANOTHER DAY OF FAME FOR THE ARGENTINE FOOTBALL. Germany 2006. A ghost chases after the ‘Group of Death’: Serbia and Montenegro. Yet, the Albicelestes are ready to play and whack their opponent. 2 goals by ‘Maxi’ Rodriguez, an anthological combination of  25 passes which lead Cambiasso to score and then Crespo hits again: 4 to 0. Still, more action is coming up. In the 84th minute, ‘Carlitos’ Tévez feints, nutmegs, breaks for the ball and shoots: 5 to 0. A gutsy and glorious scene followed by the overwhelming 6 to 0 wrap up by Messi... Once again the world witnesses Argentine football captivate with their charm.

Maxigol
ARGENTINA OR MEXICO: ONE OF  THEM WILL LEAVE GERMANY 2006. The Quarter finals await the best team, but the match ends up in a 1 to 1 draw. An extra-time with everyone’s nerves on edge and there’s no way for Argentina even though there’s will. However, dutiful ‘Maxi’ Rodriguez makes it happen: the ball is cushioned with a chest trap, lowered and volleyed into the upper corner of the net. An extraordinary goal. One of those that surprise us once in a blue moon. Afterwards, it’s all cheers!

Román
A BALLET-LIKE MOVE. Román spreads his magic and makes Yepes dance along in the Quarterfinals of the 2000 Libertadores Cup. A sample of mastery with the ball that excels football: he steps on it, raises his head, feints, turns, steps on it again… A work of art in the field. River Plate can't stop them and it's 3-nil with a mythical goal scored by Palermo, in the very last minute. A Boca climax: the whole stadium stands in applause of a move to watch, frame by frame.

El León
THE "LION" IS UNLEASHED AND HUNGRY FOR MORE. It's the second 2006 Argentine Championship and the game is just about to end. Estudiantes and Boca are playing and the score is a draw 1-1. It seems the die is cast and the Xeneixes feel like champions, but all of a sudden fear takes them by surprise: a crouching Mariano Pavone chips the ball over the goalkeeper and scores with a header. Guile and courage, an unstoppable move. Half of La Plata City roars and raves it up: Estudiantes has won the championship.

O Rei
"O REI" HAD NOT BEEN CROWNED YET, BUT IT WOULDN'T TAKE LONG. He was only seventeen, and Sweden 1958 his first performance in a World Cup with two goals -among the many- that would become the trademark of his career. The first one was against Wales, in a move that clearly showed an exceptional player. The second was in the very final and against the home team. Believe it or not: he chipped the ball over a defender's head before scoring twice in a same championship. Pelé went back to Brazil with the cup under his arm and the crown on his head. The myth was born.

El gol de Cárdenas
I'M CONVINCED IT WAS A RÁCING FAN who came up with the omen that one day Chango Cárdenas's vigorous kick would hit the crossbar, go off course, or would be intercepted by the Scottish goalkeeper. Both of us are here to deny it: I myself, who asked the 9 to shoot at the goal that November 4th 1967, in Montevideo, and this book, which shows us in one hundred and sixty images that we are in front of a gorgeous piece of soccer art. Scholars: enjoy these blissful pages. Carlos Ulanovsky

La Pulga
LIONEL MESSI HAS RECREATED THE SOCCER OF OUR TIME simply because he has conceived a new path of individualism. The performance of former cracks proved that individualism was provided for the sake of the team. Yet, Messi resembles a tennis player. This goal made to Mexico displays an unprecedented feature: the height reached by the ball. As if playing a different game -all alone-, the new worldwide soccer star reveals with a straight kick that Newton's law of gravity was pure superstition. Juan José Becerra
